Welcome to Richard Martin's March 2011 Newsletter

Returning from the utopia of Oaxaca, Mexico to the ‘seven shades of grey’ in Southern Ontario, Canada I truly long for spring… fortunately the days are getting longer, the sunlight is warming the earth, melting the ice and snow and the scent of spring is in the air… truly a time
to celebrate light!

Recent trips to Cuba and Oaxaca were unprecedented successes. It was most interesting to discover first hand how the media’s portrayal of Mexico is dead wrong. Looking forward to Cuba and Oaxaca again in 2012.

Photo Life
Look for Richard’s article ‘Ridiculous Design Rules’ in the upcoming June/July issue of Photo Life magazine.
Excerpt:  “Rules have a tendency to encourage a “paint by numbers” method of expressing visual ideas and essentially ignore the stylistic possibilities open to all creative artists. Above all it is important to recognize that merely following the rules does not demonstrate inspiration, ingenuity or creativity; to be precise, it is not art.”
