Welcome to the Richard Martin Photography April newsletter.

Spring has arrived and not a minute too soon! As the land is awakening there are new beginnings. Spring is the season when life’s alive in everything. Enjoy!

When was the last time you spent quality time with your camera, free from the distractions of the outside world? We invite you to take one of our workshops or tours and spend some quality time making images …just for the love of it.

A workshop or tour can be a journey both visually and emotionally — a time for the soul to get away from the daily routines and refresh the creative energies. Join me this spring and summer in making new friends, exploring a new environment, and letting yourself experiment with finding new ways of expressing yourself through your photographs. There are no rules, only possibilities.

Whether you’re interested in developing your own visual style or expanding your knowledge of craft, attending a workshop may turn out to be one of the best investments you make towards enriching your visual life.

Digital or alternative processes are also welcome on the workshops. Whether your working in digital or film, what matters most is the art of photography hasn’t changed. It is still very much about your personal vision of the world and using the medium to express your ideas. After all, it is not important ‘how’ you made an image, what is most important however, is the fact that you made it!

If you cannot join me in a scheduled workshop, please inquire about personal instruction or a class tailored for a small group held in your area or exotic location.

PHOTO LIFE Magazine

Richard’s upcoming article ‘The Positive Side of Negative Space’ will be published in the June/July issue of in Photo Life magazine, which will be on newsstands at the end of May.

“Negative space brings all the parts together. It provides the fullness. The space has form and proportion, and for the most part, it’s much more complex than the positive forms you’re working with. But you can’t grab it. You have to learn to see it”
