Richard’s upcoming article ‘Parallel Effects: The consequences of conformity’ will be published in the December/January issue of Photo Life magazine, which will be on newsstands at the end of November.

“Every so often I am reminded, by a conversation or teaching experience with a workshop participant; of the negative consequences that conformity places on a photographer’s creative freedom. It has become particularly evident to me, as a workshop instructor for more than twenty years, that the eagerness to gain approval, validation or authorization seems to come at the expense of an individual’s complete opportunity for discovery and enrichment. In an effort to please others, whether it be group pressure or to simply meet predetermined standards, natural personal expression often gets lost along the way. Some photographers noticeably limit themselves to preestablished rules and consequently sacrifice opportunities for breakthroughs. This is particularly true of photographers who invest a a great deal into competition as a sole means of validating their talent.”

FACES AND PLACES - PHOTOGRAPHS OF INDIA AND ITALY BY ELISA PALOSCHI
Gallery at 129 Ossington in Toronto is pleased to be presenting a solo exhibition by Elisa Paloschi featuring her photographs from Sicily and Tuscany.  There will be an Italian wine tasting, with the help of Vico Paloschi (Amici dell’ Enotria).  PLease come to the opening reception on Nov. 23rd from 7 - 10 to view Elisa's work and to compare two wines each from Sicily and Tuscany.  Gallery at 129 Ossington is located between Queen St W. and Dundas St.
