Gillian Little - Sicily 2005
Richard Martin is a born teacher.

Last Spring I had the photographic experience of my life when, along with a small group, we photographed our way around Sicily with Richard. During the sessions everyone was given ample one-on-one time. We were encouraged to break the ‘rules’, practice new and innovative techniques and to see different ways of composing our images. Richard showed us there was beauty to be found in things we had never previously considered in our picture making. Our time out in the field was flexible enough that if we happened upon the right light or “an unexpected opportunity” we were able to stop and take advantage of it. I have found Richard’s enthusiasm, knowledge and teaching ability has greatly inspired me and is reflected in the pictures I make today.

Elisa Paloschi was responsible for creating our itinerary for Sicily 2005. She lived there for many years, is fluent in Italian, and was totally unflappable while driving our group around the Island, often to locations off the beaten track. Elisa arranged accommodations that were conducive to establishing great group dynamics in settings which allowed for the group to learn more about the past and present culture of Sicily.

Richard Martin and Elisa Paloschi together enabled me to experience an atmosphere of learning, lasting friendships and an opportunity of sharing ideas with other like-minded people. I highly recommend that you take advantage of Richard’s willingness to share his passion, enthusiasm and talent for making photographs and of Elisa’s first hand knowledge and love of Sicily, the people, its culture and it’s history.

More to come.
